TOKYO, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended lower Thursday, with the Nikkei stock index briefly losing more than 2 percent, as investors took profits amid concerns over short-term overheating.

The benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended down 931.44 points, or 1.36 percent, from Wednesday at 67,470.69.

The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 44.35 points, or 1.11 percent, lower at 3,951.85.

On the stock market, investors appeared to be adjusting their positions in the wake of recent rallies. Recent gainers among heavyweight technology shares led the day's declines, with SoftBank Group dropping over 11 percent.

Meanwhile, the rise in benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures overnight also weighed on sentiment, analysts said.
